Dr. Cheng Xiaohua, a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner - Chinese Herbal Fumigation Therapy for Periarthritis of the Shoulder

After years of research, Dr. Cheng Xiaohua from Cheng Xiaohua Medical Center has invented a traditional Chinese medicine fumigation therapy for periarthritis of the shoulder, solving a long-standing problem that has plagued middle-aged patients.

Periarthritis of the shoulder is a common disease among middle-aged people. Its main symptoms are shoulder pain and limited movement. This disease mostly occurs around the age of 50, so it is commonly known as "fifty shoulder". It is a chronic degenerative disease of the soft tissues and joint capsule around the shoulder joint.

So far, the cause of periarthritis of the shoulder has not been identified worldwide. The onset often occurs without any inducement or due to minor trauma or long-term bed rest caused by a certain disease, with the shoulder remaining inactive for a period of time or being too afraid to move due to pain. The incidence of periarthritis of the shoulder is relatively high among patients with diabetes. Sometimes, periarthritis of the shoulder coexists with cervical spondylosis. Therefore, misdiagnosis is prone to occur. When the lesion progresses further, the entire shoulder joint will become adhered, and its movement will become increasingly restricted, as if it were frozen together. This is medically known as frozen shoulder.

The characteristics of periarthritis of the shoulder are that it begins with shoulder pain as the main symptom, often with pain in the front of the shoulder. Sometimes the pain radiates to the head, shoulder and elbow. A few patients may have numbness in the forearm and hand, which worsens with movement. They are often awakened by the pain at night. As the condition progresses, the pain lessens and joint movement is mainly restricted. At this time, shoulder abduction, flexion and elevation are restricted. Personal life activities such as dressing, writing and combing hair were all seriously affected. As the lesion occurred in the soft tissue of the shoulder, there were no abnormal changes in the X-Ray examination and the neurological examination was also normal.

Regarding the treatment of periarthritis of the shoulder, modern medicine mostly adopts the pain-point corticosteroid (prednisolone) block therapy, but this therapy is prohibited for diabetic patients. In addition, painkillers are taken. Traditional Chinese medicine mostly uses physical therapy methods such as acupuncture and massage. The method is to first use Chinese herbal fumigation for 40 to 60 minutes, and then combine acupuncture and unique massage techniques. It is the frozen shoulder that can be thawed and the periarthritis of the shoulder that can recover rapidly. This is because these traditional Chinese medicines contain a large amount of wind-dispelling, cold-dispelling, blood-nourishing, blood-activating, anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving herbs, which can be directly absorbed through the local affected skin, achieving a direct and rapid good effect.

Patient You XX, male, 54 years old, has suffered from bilateral periarthritis of the shoulder for many years, with the right side being more severe and the left side less so. In Taiwan, he has received various physical therapies of both traditional Chinese and Western medicine as well as steroid block treatments, but the results were not satisfactory. He then went to this center for traditional Chinese medicine fumigation treatment, along with unique acupuncture and massage treatments. After a total of eleven treatments, both sides of the shoulder periarthritis returned to normal.
